Geneva 2009: Opel Ampera - The Lightning enters the electric

It's now official, Opel presents an electric vehicle using GM technology Voltec already seen on the Chevrolet Volt. This 5-door, four seats, will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show which opens on 5 March.

"With this Ampera, Opel will be the first automotive manufacturer to provide its customers with an electric vehicle that can cover several hundred kilometers," commented Alan Visser, head of marketing at GM Europe.

Ampera The benefits of GM technology called 'Voltec' found on the Chevrolet Volt, which seems to have been vindicated. It operates differently from other modes of propulsion. For example, for short trips (up to 60km), it can run only on electric power, thanks to its lithium-ion battery that recharges easily with a 230v output. For longer distances, it uses a small combustion engine to recharge the batteries. This vehicle, according to the manufacturer in Eclair, is perfectly adapted to the habits of European drivers. The most glaring example is undoubtedly the German driver, who at 80%, runs less than 80km per day. According to the latest rumors, this should be a Ampera badgée Opel version of the Chevrolet Volt. It would be declined Flextreme concept presented in Frankfurt.

The visual and information will be available soon in Geneva. This will be an opportunity for us to get a more complete presentation of what could be a revolution in electric Opel.
