Aptera's Electric Car About to Roll: After delays, the Google-funded car is due out this fall.

The strange-looking, three-wheeled electric vehicle from Aptera, the Google.org-funded startup based in Vista, CA, will be rolling off assembly lines this October, the company says. The fish on wheels seemed a long shot for commercial success, but the Google funding seems to be helping. Now the company has 4,000 people signed up to buy the car, according to VentureBeat.

Wide Stance/Unique three wheel design
Just like a linebacker poised for the blitz, the Aptera takes a wide, three-point stance that makes the vehicle very stable, yet very agile. Push on the throttle, turn the wheel and the Aptera's neutral chassis carves through corners like it's on rails.
 Fluid exterior form
Birds glide gracefully through the air, so why not expect your vehicle to do the same? The Aptera draws inspiration from nature's creatures that embrace the environment instead of trying to fight it. Some people think we're crazy, but we think it's crazy that most vehicles spend more than 50% of their energy pushing wind out of the way.

Passenger Safety Cell/Cabin
We broke the rules again by creating a super-strong composite and aluminum safety cell to protect you and your passenger. We then added airbags, aluminum door reinforcements and more just because we like overdoing it on safety.

Gullwing doors
The gullwing doors open upwards, not outwards. So no matter how tight your parking spot is, you'll never have trouble opening the door wide enough to get out.

Eco-Chic Seating
You haven't heard? Wasteful fabric is, like, so ‘totally’ out right now. Welcome the new kid on the block; it's Eco-Chic Seating featuring recycled material that is colored with natural dyes.

Smart Phone Connectivity
Time to put all those playlists to work. Simply plug 'n' play music through the audio system, and with the push of a button, switch over for that important incoming call.

Solar assisted climate control system
Be it scorching hot or absolutely freezing, you will approach your Aptera with confidence because you know that the solar cells on your roof are not there just for a fashion statement. They are there to keep your cabin at a welcoming temperature at all times.

Driver and Passenger Airbags
We know the unthinkable happens, and when it does we want to make sure you're prepared. That's why your Aptera comes with a full complement of driver and passenger airbags.

Front Impact Zone
Your Aptera's nimble handling should be more than adequate to help you avoid almost any collision. In the unfortunate case that you cannot, feel secure in knowing your vehicle is equipped with a front impact zone fashioned after the systems that protect race car drivers in high-speed collisions.
